4-H Delegates Immerse In State Government At Capitol

Jackson County’s 4-H delegation experienced a firsthand look at Tennessee’s legislative process during their visit to the state Capitol on Wednesday.

The students, participating in the annual 4-H Congress, observed sessions of both the Tennessee House of Representatives and the Senate, gaining insight into the intricacies of how a bill becomes law.

The delegates had the opportunity to meet with their district representative, Michael Hale, and state senator, Paul Bailey. As a token of appreciation, they presented each legislator with jars of homegrown honey from Jackson County.

Representative Hale, who represents District 40 & Senator Paul Bailey, representing District 15, each representatives parts of Jackson County.

The 4-H Congress, a statewide event, brings together young people from across Tennessee to learn about leadership, citizenship, and government. The program aims to empower youth to become active and engaged members of their communities.

The delegates from Jackson County are among hundreds of 4-H members participating in the multi-day event. The 4-H organization, a youth development program of the University of Tennessee Extension, focuses on fostering leadership, citizenship, and life skills in young people.

The visit to the Capitol is a key component of the 4-H Congress, providing students with a unique opportunity to connect with their elected officials and learn about the legislative process. The Jackson County delegates expressed their gratitude to Annie, their adult leader, for facilitating the trip and providing guidance throughout their experience.
