The Jackson County Board of Commissioners has finalized the purchase of property to help free up space and foot traffic in the county courthouse.
Jackson County Mayor Randy Heady said restricted funds from the American Rescue Plan (ARP) are being used for the purchase. The purchase includes nine acres and an existing building.
“Let me reiterate, this money cannot be used for just anything,” Heady said at last week’s commission meeting. “There are so many strings attached to this money. One of the purchases we can make is what we’re doing here. We’re trying to mitigate the spread of a virus by alleviating traffic in the courthouse, on a daily basis, or limiting the traffic.”
Heady said the extra space would come in handy when it comes to elections in Jackson County.
