A vehicle reported stolen out of Cookeville was recovered recently and two individuals face criminal charges after reportedly leading officers in a high-speed pursuit.

According to a press release issued by the sheriff’s department, Dep. Jonathan Owings was conducting patrol in the Cummins Mill and P. Brewington Community when he observed a vehicle matching a stolen vehicle bulletin issued by the Cookeville Police Department.

The release further notes when Owings attempted a traffic stop, the driver of the vehicle fled, which prompted a pursuit through P. Brewington, Center Grove Circle, S. Grundy Quarles Highway, Gainesboro Grade, Cummins Mill and into the Young Cemetery community. Speeds apparently exceeded 100 miles per hour.

The vehicle came to a halt at a residence on Young Cemetery Lane, where the driver, Bianca Ellis Thorton, fled on foot and into a home occupied by George Raymond Pirl. Dep. Owings managed to enter the residence and successfully apprehend the couple.

Ellis-Thorton faces charges of Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Evading Arrest and Reckless Driving. Pirl faces charges of Aiding and Abetting.
